About Watershed

The company, in brief.

What they do

Watershed makes an enterprise sustainability platform. Companies use it to measure carbon emissions, report climate and ESG data for rules such as CSRD, and cut emissions. It has a climate database, reporting and supply chain tools, and a marketplace for carbon removal and clean power. Watershed started in 2019. Its 2030 goal is to cut about 1% of global emissions.

What they value

  • Customer obsession, with customers at the center of every decision.
  • Hard prioritization: stack rank the work and drop the rest.
  • Diversity and inclusion in hiring, culture, and leadership.
  • Intensity and care for the mission, the work, and each other.
  • Ownership: if something is broken, fix it.

Where they hire

Hub offices are in San Francisco, New York City, London, and Mexico City. Most roles are in New York City and San Francisco, and others are in London, Mexico City, and Berlin. Office staff come in four days a week. A few roles are remote in the US, as the Posting states. Postings do not say whether Watershed sponsors visas.

Teams and roles

Postings sit in five groups: Tech, Customer, Revenue, Business Foundations, and Marketing.

  • Engineering: full-stack product work, AI product and AI platform work with LLMs and agents, an enterprise platform team, and a Financial Institutions team. The stack is TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, and PostgreSQL. Each engineer ships code to production on the first day.
  • Design: product designers work with product and engineering from vision to release.
  • Climate science: climate data scientists work in a Python codebase with GHG Protocol standards.
  • Customer: sustainability advisors, data advisors, customer data services, implementation, and customer success.
  • Revenue: enterprise account executives, partnerships, solutions, and GTM operations.
  • Business Foundations: finance, accounting, people operations, and workplace.

Every process starts with one or two talks with the team. Next is a skill interview, such as a coding interview or a portfolio review. A virtual or in-person panel follows.

What they look for

Most Postings ask for a set number of years in a similar role, often five or more. Watershed wants people who want to join a startup and move fast. Many Postings ask for clear written and spoken communication with technical and non-technical people. They also ask people to learn quickly and work well in ambiguity. Many roles want people who use AI tools in their daily work. Design and marketing roles do not need climate experience, but the advisory roles need experience in sustainability or greenhouse gas accounting.
