About Tiger Data

The company, in brief.

What they do

Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, makes TimescaleDB. It is open source software that lets Postgres hold time-series and machine data at scale. Tiger Cloud runs it as a managed service, and TimescaleDB Enterprise runs it on customers' own sites. More than 2,000 companies use it. The company started in 2015 with an IoT platform.

What they value

  • Get things done: move fast and focus on outcomes.
  • Be direct, with respect.
  • Be excellent, but humble.
  • Embrace the challenge.
  • Own the outcome.
  • Win together.

Where they hire

Tiger Data is remote-first, and the board marks every open role as remote. Six roles are listed for the US, six as Remote, and two in Barcelona, Spain. One support role works APAC hours, 5am to 2pm IST. Some remote roles accept only people in the US, Canada, the EU, or EMEA. The Barcelona roles are hybrid.

Teams and roles

The board has 15 open roles. Engineering and sales have the most.

  • Platform engineering: senior engineers who build and run Tiger Cloud. The work is in Go on Kubernetes, with controllers, operators, and a fleet of Postgres instances. There is also a senior security engineer and a software engineer for the enterprise product.
  • Database: a senior engineering manager for the team that owns TimescaleDB, and a senior test tooling engineer who owns CI/CD, releases, stress tests, and benchmarks.
  • Technical support: database support engineers for APAC and for EMEA. They handle customer cases from start to end and take on-call turns.
  • Sales: an enterprise account executive for the US west, a manager for the EMEA sales team, and a business development representative, both in Barcelona. A channel sales manager signs up systems integrators that work with industrial control systems.
  • Customer success: a manager who owns a set of accounts.
  • Also: a senior FP&A analyst, and a part-time contract lead generation specialist in marketing.

The board lists no product or design openings now.

What they look for

Tiger Data says it hires company builders, people who take initiative and own results. Most technical postings ask for hands-on PostgreSQL experience, and several add Kubernetes, Go, or Python. The postings say that experience with the company's stack is not required, but a will to learn is. Support postings tell candidates to try TimescaleDB before they apply, and they want experience with customers. Sales postings ask for experience selling to technical buyers. Several postings, in sales, support, security, and customer success, expect candidates to use AI tools in their work. English fluency is required for the security role and the EMEA sales manager. The company says remote work there needs clear, frequent written communication, and it is not a place to coast. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
