About Thoughtworks

The company, in brief.

What they do

Thoughtworks is a global technology consultancy. It combines design, engineering, and AI to modernize client systems, unlock data, and build AI-powered products. Its clients range from scale-ups to Fortune 500 companies. It runs two AI platforms. AI/works is for agentic development, which is building software with AI agents. Agent/works governs and runs AI agents.

What they value

  • Extraordinary impact: through culture and technology excellence.
  • Continuous learning: share knowledge and grow.
  • Flat teams: a collaborative, non-hierarchical place that values openness and feedback.
  • Engineering practice: clean code, TDD (test-driven development), and pair programming.
  • Diversity and inclusion: part of the business since 2010.
  • Social change: technology that benefits all of society.

Where they hire

Singapore has 19 of the 44 roles. Others are in Vietnam, China, Romania, India, the Netherlands, Ecuador, Brazil, Thailand, Spain, the UK, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Most roles are hybrid, and some are on site at client offices. Seventeen roles in Singapore and Thailand need local citizenship, or Singapore permanent residence, for client security clearance.

Teams and roles

Thoughtworks was founded in Chicago in 1993. It has more than 10,000 people in 48 offices. Apax Funds took it private in 2024. The board lists 44 roles.

  • Software development: full-stack developers in React, Java, Node.js, and TypeScript, senior developers, lead engineers, and technical principals.
  • Graduate roles: associate developers and graduate systems support engineers in Ecuador, Chile, and Singapore.
  • Infrastructure and support: infrastructure engineers on AWS and GCP, and application and systems support engineers in Romania.
  • AI and data: AI engineers, a machine learning engineer, an AIOps architect, and a principal for agentic AI in Amsterdam.
  • Sales and advisory: business development, delivery transformation, technology advisory, and pre-sales solutions architects.
  • India: a lead GCP infrastructure engineer and a Workday HCM consultant.

New graduates start with Thoughtworks University, a four-week training program in Pune, India.

What they look for

Developer roles ask for 4 to 7 or more years, and lead, principal, and director roles for 8 to 15 or more. Graduate roles ask for less than one year. Many postings ask for TDD, continuous delivery, and pair programming. Common skills are React, Java, Node.js, and TypeScript, and AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes. AI roles ask for Python, RAG, and agent frameworks. RAG feeds retrieved documents to an LLM, a large language model.

Several engineering postings ask for daily use of AI-assisted development tools. Postings want people who like learning, share knowledge, and handle ambiguity. The interview has a recruiter call and a technical interview, which can be pair programming, a case study, or a design challenge.
