About Telstra

The company, in brief.

What they do

Telstra is a telecommunications company. Its postings call it an iconic Australian brand that has connected Australians for generations, and state its purpose as building a connected future so everyone can thrive. The board covers the retail shops that sell phones and plans, the network behind them, and service contracts for large customers, including the Australian Defence organisation.

What they value

  • Serving the customer in front of you, which retail postings put first.
  • Knowing the products, phrased as being the go-to tech expert in store.
  • Security clearance for defence work, which some technical postings require.
  • Part-time and casual work, which most of the board offers.
  • Applying before the date. Every posting prints a closing date and time.

Where they hire

Of 208 postings, Australia holds 206. Singapore, the Philippines, and India hold one each. Most postings name a single Telstra shop, such as Ocean Keys, Carousel, or Runaway Bay, spread across every state. Twelve postings are listed as Australia (Flexible), which lets the holder sit in Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane. No posting is remote.

Teams and roles

This board is almost entirely retail, so it suits someone who wants shop work rather than an engineering job.

  • Mass market sales: 188 of the 208 postings. These are the retail customer service and sales consultant roles, one to a named store, and most are part time.
  • Business to business sales: four postings.
  • Service operations: three postings, which keep running services stable.
  • Risk and compliance: two postings. Finance and accounting holds two, media and creative design two, and customer service and support two.
  • Single postings: network engineering, technology consulting and solutions, field services and installation, human resource management, and business programme and project management.
  • Contracts: 200 postings are permanent, six are casual, and two are fixed term. Part-time postings outnumber full-time ones on this board.

What they look for

Retail postings ask for the behaviour rather than a qualification. The consultant posting describes frontline support: helping customers pick products, activating services, troubleshooting basic problems, and following retail standards. It says the role demonstrates foundational autonomy, which marks it as an entry point, and asks you to keep up with the latest devices and to sell consultatively. Technical postings are the opposite and state hard prerequisites. The unified communications posting supports Defence communications and names the platforms as Poly, Pexip, Cisco, and Microsoft. It asks you to monitor and resolve incidents against service levels, complete root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes. It also states that a minimum active NV1 security clearance is essential to be considered, which rules out anyone who does not already hold one.
