What they do

Skylo runs a network that connects phones, wearables, and IoT devices directly to satellites where mobile coverage stops. It works with satellite operators, mobile network operators, chipset makers, and device makers, and it certifies devices for the network. The service is live on millions of devices on five continents. Devices need no special hardware.

Where they hire

Most open roles are in Mountain View, California, and Bangalore, India. Both offices are on site three days a week. A few roles are remote in the US and one in the UK. One government role requires US citizenship. One space role requires US citizenship or permanent residence. Both need a security clearance. The postings do not mention visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

About two thirds of the open roles are in engineering. Skylo has three hubs: Mountain View, Espoo in Finland, and Bengaluru.

• Network operations: network reliability engineers keep the live network healthy 24 hours a day. Staff engineers own one domain, such as the 5G core or cloud infrastructure. Incident engineers run the bridge call from first alert to restored service. Most of these roles are in Bangalore.
• Cloud and platform: a principal backend engineer, a performance QA engineer, and a cloud infrastructure engineer in Bangalore. The platform runs on Kubernetes in Google Cloud and in private data centers.
• Security: a cloud security engineer and a manager who builds the security operations team from the start, both in Bangalore.
• Network engineering and test: network design, ground station sites, system test, and roaming tests with mobile network operators, in Mountain View. A performance engineer in Bangalore builds the network KPIs.
• Space network: an RF payload lead and a mission architect for a planned constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. A solutions architect works on defense customers in Skylo Government Systems.
• Product and solutions: product managers for new services and for the device ecosystem. A solutions engineer helps device makers connect chipsets and modules.
• Business roles: marketing and communications, recruiting, an accountant, and a paralegal.

Most postings for US roles state a base salary range. Postings for Bangalore roles state no pay.

What they look for

Most roles are senior. Postings ask for 5 to 20 years of experience, and the titles are senior, staff, principal, or director. Engineering postings ask for knowledge of the 3GPP mobile standards and for telecom work in production. Satellite network experience is usually a plus, not a requirement. Operations and cloud roles ask for Kubernetes, AWS or Google Cloud, Prometheus and Grafana, and scripting in Python, Go, or Bash. These roles join a 24-hour on-call rotation. Many postings ask for clear writing, such as runbooks, design documents, and incident reports. Several postings say that every role at Skylo uses AI tools daily. Many roles work across US, European, and Indian time zones.
