The company, in brief.
What they do
Silkline makes procurement software for hardware manufacturers in aerospace, defense, space, energy, and robotics. Teams use it to send requests for quote, issue purchase orders, and talk with suppliers. It connects to the ERP, PLM, and MES systems that they already use. Silkline is a seed-stage startup, and its customers manage more than $1B of spend each quarter in it.
What they value
- Be curious, so that you learn and find new opportunities.
- Stay humble, and hear what each person contributes.
- Act before customers ask, and set the pace of the market.
- Build things you are proud of, that customers love.
- Bet on how far people can grow, not on where they start.
Where they hire
All three Postings are in-office roles in Seattle or Chicago. Silkline does not sponsor work visas. Every role touches ITAR-controlled data (US defense export rules), so you must be a US citizen, a permanent resident, or another "US person" under ITAR. The two customer roles travel to customer sites.
Teams and roles
The board lists three openings.
- Engineering: an early software engineer builds the first product, leads its architecture, and talks directly with customers.
- Deployment: a forward deployed engineer and a deployment strategist own customers from the signed contract to go-live and after. They map ERP, PLM, and MES data into Silkline and set up workflows. Both roles pay $150,000 to $225,000 a year, plus 0.15% to 0.25% equity.
What they look for
The software engineer role asks for five years across front end and back end, with TypeScript, React, Next.js, and GraphQL. It also asks for startup work, products built from zero, and fast API integrations, ideally with ERP systems. The forward deployed engineer role asks for four years as an ERP, PLM, or MES implementer, or as a customer-facing engineer who ships code. The strategist role asks for four years of owning customer outcomes, comfortable SQL, and clear writing. Both deployment roles prefer manufacturing procurement or aerospace and defense work.
