The company, in brief.
What they do
Sarla Aviation builds Shunya, an electric air taxi that takes off and lands vertically. Shunya seats one pilot and six passengers, and it has cargo and ambulance versions. A half-scale demonstrator, Sylla, completed its flight tests in 2026. The company started in 2023 in Bengaluru and holds a Design Organisation Approval from the DGCA, the aviation regulator of India.
What they value
- Safety is the highest priority in design.
- Simplicity: the best part is no part.
- First-principle design thinking.
- Affordable rides, at prices close to ride-hailing on the ground.
- Belonging: people from all backgrounds are welcome.
- Work for India and for a Viksit Bharat, a developed India.
Where they hire
Ten of the twelve open roles are in Bangalore. The headquarters there holds the design, engineering, testing, and commercial teams. One internship is in Mumbai. The Flight Controls Architect role is remote, and the board lists it under India. The postings say nothing about visas or sponsorship.
Teams and roles
Most open roles are senior engineering roles on the eVTOL aircraft program. eVTOL means electric vertical take-off and landing.
- Flight controls: an architect, a control law engineer, and a trainee engineer. They write control laws for hover, transition, and cruise in MATLAB/Simulink. They test the laws in simulation, on hardware, and in flight.
- Avionics and embedded software: a senior avionics engineer, a senior avionics hardware engineer, and a senior embedded software engineer. The work covers flight controllers, autopilot systems, sensors, circuit boards, and real-time C/C++ code.
- Aircraft design and propulsion: a senior aircraft design engineer who owns the design of the whole aircraft, and an architect for the electric motors.
- Test and evaluation: a software engineer who builds a real-time flight simulator in C++ from the ground up.
- Procurement and supply chain: a senior engineer who sources aircraft parts and manages suppliers, and an intern who builds AI tools for procurement.
- Design and brand: a social media and content intern.
What they look for
Senior aircraft engineering roles ask for at least six years of experience, and three of them ask for eight or more. Most ask for a bachelor's or master's degree in aerospace, electrical, or a related field of engineering. MATLAB/Simulink repeats across the flight controls, avionics, and aircraft design roles. Knowledge of aviation certification standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, and ARP4754A also repeats. Many roles name software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Experience with eVTOL aircraft, drones, or electric propulsion is preferred. The trainee role takes graduates with strong control theory. The procurement internship takes final-year students and recent graduates who build tools with AI. The social media internship needs a portfolio. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
