About Rune

The company, in brief.

What they do

Rune builds modular micro data centers, called RELIC, that plug into solar and wind plants. They turn power the grid cannot take into AI compute. Rune builds the units in Mountain View and sells bare-metal GPU clusters of 8 to 1,024 GPUs. It is backed by Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, and Lowercarbon Capital.

What they value

  • Speed: deployments go live in weeks, not years.
  • Ownership of a whole area of work.
  • Building a function from scratch as the first hire in it.
  • Safety and quality on every site.
  • Playbooks that make each new site faster than the last.
  • Clear, direct communication.

Where they hire

All eleven roles are in Mountain View, California. Six are on site and five are hybrid. No role is remote. Field roles ask for travel to deployment sites, up to about 30% of the time for the fiber role. The GPU engineer posting asks if you need immigration sponsorship. The other postings say nothing about it.

Teams and roles

Rune is hiring for eleven roles across deployment, manufacturing, sales, engineering, and the business.

  • Deployment: a project manager, a fiber project manager, and a site deployment manager take each RELIC site from planning to installation, energization, and handoff. They direct contractors on electrical and fiber work.
  • Manufacturing: a materials planning manager owns inventory, demand planning, and MRP. A quality control technician inspects parts and finished units and keeps the reports in Excel.
  • Safety: the first environment, health, and safety lead builds the program for the assembly floor and field sites under OSHA and Cal/OSHA rules.
  • Sales: the first account executive for AI compute sells GPU capacity to AI labs, inference providers, and neoclouds.
  • Engineering: a GPU infrastructure engineer supports customer clusters on RoCEv2 networking, NCCL, and GPU health. The pay range is $175,000 to $260,000.
  • IT: the first IT systems administrator owns devices, MDM, and the SaaS stack.
  • Design: the first creative director owns the industrial design of the RELIC, the brand, and the website.
  • Operations: a business operations associate runs compliance, KPI reporting, and office projects.

What they look for

Most roles ask for several years in a related field, from 1 to 3 years for the business operations role to 8 years for the safety role. Many ask for field experience on construction, industrial, or data center sites, and for the ability to read drawings and electrical one-lines. The postings repeat strong organization, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication. They want people who take ownership, like early-stage building, and make sound decisions in a fast-moving place. The postings offer a competitive base pay.
