About Reddit

The company, in brief.

What they do

Reddit is a community of communities. Users submit, vote, and comment on the topics they care about. It has more than 100,000 active communities and about 130 million daily active unique visitors. Advertising is its main source of revenue. Its mission is to empower communities and make their knowledge accessible to all.

What they value

  • Reddit's mission first, with one shared goal.
  • Make something people love.
  • Evolve: keep improving and learning.
  • Add value, and do not confuse activity with value.
  • Default open: let ideas and feedback flow freely.

Where they hire

Of 150 Postings, 111 are remote, most of them in the United States. Others are remote in Canada, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Germany. Office roles are in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, and Amsterdam. One sales role asks you to live within 50 miles of an office.

Teams and roles

Engineering, machine learning (ML), and ads work hold most of the Postings.

  • Ads: ads engineering is the largest team, with ML engineers for the ads auction and bidding, ads data science, and ads product managers.
  • Platform and consumer engineering: backend, frontend, iOS, and Android engineers for the backend platform, feeds, media, notifications, safety, and developer platform.
  • Machine learning: feed relevance and retrieval, and AI security.
  • Sales: client partners and account managers for large customers and mid market, plus sales strategy and operations.
  • Data science for consumer growth and experiments.
  • Also policy, legal, accounting and tax, internal audit, community, and technical program management.

What they look for

Backend roles ask for 3 or more years, or 5 to 8 for senior, in Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby. They also ask for skill in designing the interfaces that programs use to talk to each other, with GraphQL, REST, or gRPC. They ask for a self-directed builder who can work well in a fully remote team. A senior ML role asks for ML systems that run for real users, Python, Java, or Go, and tools for moving and processing large data, such as Spark and Kafka. A senior data scientist role in ads asks for a master's or PhD and 4 or more years. Sales roles ask for a record against sales targets. In some roles and places, AI records and summarizes interviews, and candidates can opt out.
