About Qualcomm

The company, in brief.

What they do

Qualcomm designs chips and the software that runs on them. Its Snapdragon products power smartphones, and its systems-on-chip also go into PCs, IoT devices, and data center servers for AI, high-performance computing, and cloud. It calls itself a company of inventors that unlocked 5G.

What they value

  • Invention: pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
  • People with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures.
  • Working across sites and geographies with other teams.
  • Equal opportunity and an accessible hiring process.

Where they hire

The board lists about 2,000 roles. About 790 are in the United States, mostly San Diego, Santa Clara, and Austin. India has about 560: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Noida, and Chennai. Others are in Taiwan, Canada, Mexico, China, and Ireland. Almost every role is on site; about a dozen are remote. Postings do not mention visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Engineering makes up most of the board.

  • ASIC and hardware: physical design, design verification, SoC and IP micro-architecture, CPU and GPU design, and packaging.
  • Software: platform and systems software, mobile software architecture, and machine learning engineering.
  • Systems engineering, including modem technologies and camera.
  • Program and product management.
  • Business: finance, accounting, business operations, and sourcing, with global finance and accounting teams in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
  • Students: interns in hardware and software.

What they look for

Engineering postings set the minimum as a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical or electronics engineering, or a related field, with a set number of years of experience. A master's or PhD lowers the years asked. Years run from two for entry roles to eight or more for principal roles. Hardware roles ask for Verilog, SystemVerilog, UVM, and static timing and signoff knowledge. Software roles ask for C, C++, Java, or Python. Business roles ask for a bachelor's or master's degree and two or more years of work.
