About Pinecone

The company, in brief.

What they do

Pinecone calls itself the trusted AI knowledge company. Its mission is to make AI knowledgeable. Its platform includes its Database, Nexus, and Marketplace products. They power AI applications for more than 10,000 customers and 1M developers. Edo Liberty founded Pinecone in 2019 to give engineering teams of all sizes the storage and search that AI applications need.

What they value

  • Be a pro: own your work, push boundaries, and strive for simplicity.
  • Be yourself: be authentic, speak your truth, and seek feedback.
  • Be a friend: earn trust, help others, listen, and commit to shared decisions.

Where they hire

Pinecone has its headquarters in New York City and an office in Tel Aviv. It has a hybrid workforce, partly in the office and partly remote. All 7 Postings are in the US: 5 in New York City and 2 remote in the US. Engineering roles in New York are hybrid. No Posting mentions visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Five of the 7 Postings are Senior or Staff Software Engineers in R&D (research and development).

  • Database team: builds the database as systems that run across many computers and answer in real time.
  • Search and Retrieval Infrastructure: builds the systems that prepare customer data for search, search it by meaning as well as by keyword, and serve the results to AI agents.
  • Experience team: owns the API (the interface programs use to call Pinecone), the code libraries and tools for developers, sign-in, revenue, and the systems that watch how the product runs. It is redesigning them so that AI agents are users beside humans.
  • Product marketing: a Staff Technical Product Marketing Manager plans launches and messaging for developers and large companies.
  • Field engineering: an entry-level Associate Field Engineer for new grads helps customers from when they try Pinecone to when they use it for real.

What they look for

Engineering roles ask for 4 to 6+ years of experience. They ask for Rust, Go, C++, Java, or Python, and experience with a cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. Search roles want knowledge of search by meaning and of RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), where an AI looks up data before it answers. Experience roles want experience building APIs or developer libraries, React (a web interface library), and daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor. Several Postings say you do not need to check every box. The marketing role asks for 7+ years in product marketing. The field engineer role asks for a degree in computer science or equivalent, and Python or JavaScript.
