Computer, launched in 2026, completes multi-step work across apps. Millions of people use Perplexity each day. It started in December 2022 in San Francisco.

Offices are in San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, Austin, Washington DC, London, Berlin, and Belgrade. People near an office work there at least four days a week. Remote candidates are considered case by case. Perplexity offers visa and relocation support.

Teams and roles

Engineers join as Members of Technical Staff and match to a team during the onsite. Most postings ask for three to five years of experience or more.

• AI Products: Computer, agents, desktop apps, integrations, and multimodal features, with Python, TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL.
• AI Research and Systems: inference in Rust, Python, and CUDA, post-training, evals, and recommendations.
• Search, in Belgrade, London, and Berlin: crawling, ranking, and retrieval in high-throughput Rust and Go services.
• Platform and Infrastructure: cloud, data, storage, and connectors on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Apps: Rust, Kotlin, Swift, and Chromium.

Design is a large group, and some designers write production code in React or SwiftUI. Product managers work on core experience, growth, AI, and mobile.

What they look for

Perplexity wants frontier knowledge and excellence in at least one area. Every listed skill can be tested, so avoid buzzwords. Candidates must know how to use AI, but need no experience building AI products. The process is a recruiter screen, a technical screen, and an onsite of four to five interviews. The onsite includes a deep dive on past work, and a final talk with a founder or leader follows. A decision comes within a week.
