About Oyster

The company, in brief.

What they do

Oyster runs a global employment platform. Companies use it to hire, pay, and care for people in more than 180 countries. Oyster can act as the employer of record, the legal employer for a company's staff in a country. It also pays contractors and offers payroll, benefits, salary data, and visa sponsorship. Oyster is a certified B Corp.

What they value

  • Build and give trust: listen, keep commitments, and make hard talks safe.
  • Make it happen: take ownership and do not wait for permission.
  • Drive change: see change as a chance to grow.
  • United team: break down silos and communicate in public.
  • A more equal world of work: let companies hire people anywhere.
  • Async work: work asynchronously, not at the same time, and share how the company operates.

Where they hire

Every role is fully remote. Oyster says it has no headquarters, and its mailing address is in Charlotte. Most roles are in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, most often Spain, Portugal, Poland, and Romania. Others are in the Americas, such as Brazil, Canada, and the United States. Staff must be authorized to work where they live.

Teams and roles

Oyster was founded in 2020. Its careers page counts more than 648 employees. It raised a $150M Series C at a valuation over $1 billion. The board lists 19 postings, one of them a sign-up for a talent community.

  • Go to market: business development representatives for the Americas and for EMEA, content and partner marketing, campaigns, and a go-to-market architect.
  • Product development: a lead product manager, and a senior director of product for the employer of record product. There are also a senior AI product engineer and two AI solutions engineers.
  • Operations: customer success, global benefits, payroll vendor management, and offboarding.
  • Finance: an accounts payable analyst and senior accountants for EMEA and for Latin America.

Few postings give a pay range. The ones that do are in local currency, and some include equity. Staff get 40 days off a year, a monthly wellbeing allowance, and a home office stipend.

What they look for

Most roles are senior. Postings ask for years in the same field:

  • Two or more for customer success.
  • Three or more for accounts payable and offboarding.
  • Five or more for product management and accounting.
  • Ten or more for the product director.

Many postings ask for fluent written and spoken English. Finance roles ask for NetSuite and advanced Excel. Sales roles ask for Salesforce.

Five postings ask for hands-on use of AI tools in the work, from prototypes to rebuilt workflows. The AI product engineer ships LLM (large language model) features on a Ruby on Rails and React stack. Rails experience is a bonus, not a requirement. Every posting says that the team works asynchronously.
