About Nominal

The company, in brief.

What they do

Nominal makes software that engineers use to test and operate hardware. Nominal Core keeps telemetry, logs, video, and test results in one place for analysis. Nominal Connect runs Python test apps beside the hardware. Customers include Anduril, Shield AI, Hermeus, Pratt Miller Motorsports, and U.S. Navy and Air Force programs. Four of the five largest defense contractors use Nominal.

What they value

  • Approach everything with curiosity, expertise, and passion.
  • Reach milestones and the mission faster.
  • Build resilience and reliability at every step.
  • Own problems from end to end and work across disciplines.
  • Stay close to the customer and the engineers who use the product.

Where they hire

Nominal works in the office five days a week, in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, London, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. Almost every Posting has an ITAR rule: you must be a U.S. citizen, green card holder, refugee, or asylee, or get U.S. approval. Many roles need a security clearance. The Postings say nothing about visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

The board lists forty openings.

  • Software engineering: thirteen roles, in backend, frontend, build systems, bare-metal infrastructure, deployment, and mission development, the team that builds for each customer.
  • AI: eight roles on agents, the Nominal MCP, evaluations, machine learning, and forward-deployed work with customers.
  • Mission operations: five roles that deploy Nominal at customer sites, train users, and manage accounts, with up to half of the time on travel.
  • Government and sales: business development, contracts, and program roles for the U.S. Air Force and defense agencies, plus an account executive and a sales development representative.
  • Early career: nine internships and new graduate roles for Summer 2027.
  • Recruiting, design, product support, and office roles fill the rest.

What they look for

Engineering Postings ask for three or four years or more, and strong ownership. The backend role asks for distributed systems work in Go, Rust, or Java. The AI roles ask for LLM features shipped to real users and daily use of AI coding agents. Mission operations asks for hands-on hardware test work, such as flight tests or test stands. Sales asks for seven-figure enterprise deals. New graduates need strong projects or internships.
