About Neon

The company, in brief.

What they do

Neon Commerce builds direct-to-consumer (DTC) tools for games. Publishers use them to sell to players outside the app stores. Neon offers web shops, checkout, global payments, and full merchant of record (MoR) services. As the MoR, Neon handles tax, fraud, security, and compliance. It says that it covers all of the top 50 mobile game markets.

What they value

  • Optimists build: the only way to a bright future is to build.
  • Velocity is the guiding star: move quickly and focus on real solutions.
  • Be like water: adapt to a problem and find a path forward.
  • Commerce is open and transparent, with clear decisions and aligned incentives.

Where they hire

The board has four Postings. Three are on site in New York City, and one of them also names San Francisco. The engineering roles in New York ask you to work from the office. The fourth role is remote from Seoul, South Korea, and needs fluent English and Korean. No Posting mentions visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Engineering has three of the four Postings.

  • Software engineers, at mid and senior level, build both the parts of the product that users see and the systems behind them, in New York.
  • A forward deployed engineer grows the partner engineering work, which helps customers build on Neon. The job covers getting developers started, the documentation for customers, and new features that customers ask for.
  • Revenue: a lead product marketing manager is the first product marketing hire. This person builds from scratch how Neon brings its products to market.

What they look for

The engineering Postings ask for experience on both sides of a product, the part users see and the systems behind it, with a strong focus on React and TypeScript. The Software Engineer asks for 1+ year of experience. The Senior Software Engineer asks for 5+ years and for experience as the lead of teams or projects. The forward deployed engineer asks for 5+ years in partner engineering or a similar role with customers. It also asks for experience with API documentation, which tells other programmers how to connect to a product. Product marketing asks for 7+ years, with 3 in software for large businesses, fintech (financial technology), or payments, and for strong writing. Gaming experience is a plus. The forward deployed engineer Posting gives the process: a hiring manager screen, a take-home task review, and a four-hour online interview. It has sessions on coding or on system design (how the parts of a system fit together) and a meeting with the CEO.
