What they do
NBN Co designs, builds, and operates the nbn network, a wholesale broadband network for Australia. Internet retailers use it to sell broadband to homes and businesses. The Commonwealth of Australia set up the company in 2009 as a Government Business Enterprise. The network uses fibre, copper, HFC cable, fixed wireless, and satellite.
What they value
- Lift the digital capability of the nation.
- Keep an inclusive, flexible, and supportive workplace.
- Welcome people of all ages, nationalities, abilities, and cultures.
- Value transferable skills, and apply even if you do not match every line.
- Support balance and wellbeing.
Where they hire
All 85 Postings are in Australia, in cities and regional towns. Sydney and Melbourne have the most, then Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, and Cairns. No Posting is remote. Office staff work half their time in the office each fortnight. Field roles work between 7am and 7pm. Eighty-one Postings say that you must have full working rights in Australia.
Teams and roles
Most roles are in Field Services, the teams that install and repair the network.
- Customer Field Technicians: 34 roles that install, repair, and maintain nbn services at customer premises. One role is for electricians and data cablers.
- Trainee Customer Field Technicians: 21 roles, open only to women and First Nations people. Trainees get paid while they work towards a Cert III in Telecommunications Technology over 12 months.
- Senior Field Technicians: 16 roles for experienced technicians, many in regional towns.
- Field leadership and engineering: two field area managers, two field engineers, and a field safety and quality specialist.
- Corporate: project management, procurement, payments, financial control, regulatory economics, portfolio planning, and an expert in knowledge graphs for the Chief Data Office.
- An expression of interest for the 2028 Graduate Program, with four six-month rotations over two years.
What they look for
Field Postings ask for a current driver's licence, customer service, and clear communication. Forty-five ask for experience with copper and fibre networks. Senior Field Technician Postings prefer an ACMA licence and a Certificate III or IV. Trainee Postings ask for an eagerness to learn, and you must complete the free Digital Work Experience. For most field roles, you send only a resume, and you pass a criminal history check and a medical assessment. Corporate Postings ask for work with stakeholders.
