About Mozilla

The company, in brief.

What they do

Mozilla Corporation makes Firefox, a web browser that is focused on privacy. The non-profit Mozilla Foundation owns the company, so it has no shareholders. Mozilla builds open-source software with volunteers all over the world. The Mozilla family also includes MZLA, which makes the Thunderbird email app. Mozilla hires for these organizations on one board.

What they value

  • Welcoming differences, because diverse views give better solutions.
  • Being relationship-minded, with empathy and active listening.
  • Responsible participation through transparent and open processes.
  • Grit, which means facing obstacles with optimism and learning from results.

Where they hire

All roles are remote. Most are in Canada, the US, and Germany. Some are in the UK, France, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Finland, and the Netherlands. Five Firefox engineering roles are contracts. Thunderbird roles need people who live in the listed country and have permanent work authorization. Thunderbird does not sponsor visas. Enterprise sales roles in Germany and France need travel.

Teams and roles

Firefox is the largest team. Other teams are Thunderbird, Core Services, New Products, and Infrastructure.

  • Firefox engineering: browser work on layout, DOM, graphics, performance, and add-ons, in C++, Rust, and JavaScript. The add-ons site uses Python, Django, MySQL, React, and TypeScript.
  • Firefox product: product managers for search and for the platform that lets outside tools and AI agents control the browser.
  • Thunderbird: iOS, design, and full-stack roles. Some roles build Thunderbolt, an open-source AI product for enterprises.
  • Core Services and Infrastructure: data science, data engineering, cloud engineering, operations, and enterprise support.
  • New Products: sales and solutions engineers for Firefox Enterprise, with German or French language roles.

Mozilla.org, the Mozilla Foundation, and People hire for finance, fundraising, and recruiting.

What they look for

Most roles ask for five or more years of experience, and many ask for seven or more. Postings ask for strong written and verbal communication, and for work in distributed teams across time zones. Many ask for comfort with ambiguity and work with senior stakeholders. Engineering and data roles ask for good use of AI development tools. Many postings ask for a commitment to Mozilla's four values.
