About Modular

The company, in brief.

What they do

Modular builds software that runs AI models on many kinds of hardware: CPUs, GPUs, and other AI chips. Its products are Mojo, a programming language for AI systems, MAX, a framework to build and serve models, and Modular Cloud, which serves models for customers. Qualcomm bought Modular in July 2026. The three products keep their names.

What they value

  • Put customers first, and deliver on promises.
  • Build it right, with high-quality software.
  • Act like an owner, and commit once a decision is made.
  • Keep decisions and plans open to everyone in the company.
  • Hire the best, and never stop learning.
  • Win together, fail together, with no blame for mistakes.

Where they hire

Most roles are remote in the United States and Canada, and some add the United Kingdom. Offices are in Los Altos, California, and Edinburgh. Early-career engineers work in an office at least three days a week. Onboarding is in person, and every role travels two to four times a year. Some US Postings use E-Verify, and none mention visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

The board lists 19 openings, most of them in engineering.

  • Mojo: engineers work on the compiler, the back end of the compiler, the debugger, and developer tools.
  • Kernels and performance: engineers write fast GPU and accelerator code, such as attention kernels. A manager leads the kernel team.
  • Hardware: engineers and a manager add support for new AI chips across the whole stack, and work with chip makers.
  • Inference: engineers build the systems, tools, and runtime that serve models on Modular Cloud.
  • Product and developer relations: a director of product for the cloud, two developer advocates for Mojo and MAX, and a technical product marketing manager.
  • Workplace engineering: a platform engineer automates IT work, such as Okta and onboarding, in Los Altos.

What they look for

Engineering roles ask for strong C++ and low-level systems work. Kernel and hardware roles ask for GPU programming, such as CUDA or HIP. Compiler roles ask for MLIR and LLVM. Many roles ask for five or more years, and a few ask for two. Manager roles ask for years spent leading engineers. Developer advocates must show a portfolio of technical writing or videos. Several Postings ask for curiosity and a team attitude. Interviews include a recruiter call, a hiring manager call, about four team interviews, and a culture interview.
