About Method

The company, in brief.

What they do

Method makes an API that connects apps to consumer credit and liability accounts, such as credit cards, student loans, and auto loans. Users connect their accounts with a phone number and no login details. The API also sends payments to lenders and billers in the US. Lenders, fintechs, and banks build on it. Method started in 2021.

What they value

  • Lead by action: be hands-on in a project from start to finish.
  • Move (uncomfortably) fast: decide quickly, iterate, and pivot when needed.
  • Take informed risks: bet on data and insights, not on impulse.
  • Stay resilient: treat a setback as a chance to sharpen your skills.

Where they hire

All nine open postings are in the US. Every posting names New York. Five also name Austin, five name San Francisco, and three name Washington D.C. Method expects two to three days a week in an office on average. It does not allow full-time remote work. The postings say nothing about visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

The careers page says that everyone at Method can take a project from start to finish. Every posting for a named role states a US base salary range.

  • Engineering: a software engineer and a senior software engineer. They write JavaScript, with a Node backend and React on the front end. The senior role scales the core API, which handles millions of requests per day. Engineers own projects end to end, review code, and interview new team members.
  • Design: the first design engineer at Method. This person works with the Head of Design on the design system, the marketing site, the dashboard, and the product that partners embed in their own apps. The website work uses Three.js and WebGL shaders.
  • Product: a forward deployed product manager, who is the product partner for a set of the largest customer accounts.
  • Sales: one enterprise account executive sells to consumer lenders, banks, credit unions, and fintechs. A second one sells the Card Connect product to digital payments companies. A solutions engineer joins deals early and leads technical discovery and integration planning.
  • People: a senior technical recruiter who hires individual contributors across engineering, product, and design, and sets up a software engineering internship program.

One more entry, named Former Founder, collects resumes for future roles.

What they look for

The software engineer role asks for three or more years of full-time engineering, and the senior role asks for five or more. Both require a history of excellent projects and experience with production applications that scale. The software engineer role names Node, React, and MongoDB or another NoSQL database. The sales, solutions, and recruiting roles each ask for five or more years in that work.

Experience in fintech, payments, or lending repeats across the postings, mostly as a plus. The solutions engineer needs earlier work with APIs, and the product manager must be able to talk about APIs and data flows with engineers. The product manager and recruiter postings ask for people who already use AI tools. The design engineer needs a portfolio of shipped web work with shaders. That posting says that depth of experience matters more than years.

Only the recruiter posting lists its interview steps: three 30-minute calls, an onsite with a take-home presentation, and a sign-off with a co-founder.
