About Mercury

The company, in brief.

What they do

Mercury makes banking and finance software for startups and businesses. It is a fintech company, not a bank, and partner banks provide the banking services. Products include business checking, cards, payments, loans, accounting tools, and an API. More than 300,000 entrepreneurs use it, and it launched in 2019.

What they value

  • Think actively.
  • Be super helpful.
  • Act with humility.
  • Appreciate quality.
  • Focus on the outcome.
  • Build relentlessly.

Where they hire

Mercury is remote first, with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Portland, Oregon. Most roles are open in an office or remote in the US or Canada. Some sales, compliance, and support roles are US only. There are no roles outside the US and Canada. Postings do not mention visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Most engineering roles are senior, with some staff and earlier-career roles. The backend is Haskell, and postings ask for Haskell or a wish to learn it.

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Redux, and Vite.
  • Infrastructure: PostgreSQL and AWS services such as EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, and EKS.
  • Product engineering: small, self-organizing teams of product-minded engineers.
  • Command: an LLM financial assistant, with agentic workflows and tool schemas.
  • Also investments and trading, fraud and risk, an ML platform for real-time inference, site reliability, design systems, cloud security, and data engineering.

Product managers are senior, in areas such as banking, lending, and reconciliation. Many roles are in risk operations and compliance, such as KYC and AML investigators.

What they look for

Mercury wants pragmatic, product-minded engineers who actively use AI tools in their work. It encourages people to question processes, voice opinions, and pursue excellence. The site does not describe the interview steps.
