What they do

Lokal makes a family of apps for people in India who use the internet in their own language, mostly in smaller towns. The Lokal app gives local news and updates. Other apps cover jobs, matchmaking, learning, astrology, farm advice, and peer support. Lokal started in 2018 in Bengaluru and says that it serves more than 250 districts.

Where they hire

All nine Postings are in Karnataka, India. Five name Bengaluru, and four name Chigaranahalli. The Kannada video editor Posting is marked remote, but its text names an office in Hyderabad. The other Postings are on site. The careers page offers 36 work-from-home days. No Posting mentions visa sponsorship or right to work.

Teams and roles

The board is small, and most of it is people operations and marketing.

• People: a senior HR business partner for GyanTV, a non-tech recruiter, and a six-month HR operations internship.
• Administration: an admin executive and a senior admin executive who run the Bengaluru office, its vendors, and its assets.
• Performance marketing: three entry-level roles that run Meta and Google ad campaigns, one for Sahi English and two for Telugu and Kannada audiences.
• Creative: a Kannada video editor who makes thumbnails, share cards, and status videos.

What they look for

Seven Postings ask for one to five years of experience. The HR business partner role asks for five to eight. Four Postings ask for comfort in a fast-paced or fast-changing startup. The marketing and HR business partner roles ask for decisions based on data. The video editor must read, write, and speak Kannada. The recruiter must know two South Indian languages. The marketing roles prefer copywriting in English and a regional language. Four Postings name office tools such as Excel, MS Office, or Google Workspace. The internship pays a stipend of 30,000 rupees a month.
