About LlamaIndex

The company, in brief.

What they do

LlamaIndex makes LlamaParse, a service that reads hard documents such as dense PDFs, scans, tables, and forms. It turns them into structured data for AI systems. Its parts parse, extract, split, classify, and index documents. LiteParse is its open-source parser that runs on your own machine. Customers are in finance, insurance, manufacturing, and healthcare.

What they value

  • Be goal-oriented: everyone is accountable to the company goals.
  • Be transparent about information, about wins and even more about mistakes.
  • Debate fast, act fast, commit fully.
  • Assume the best intent from others.
  • Reactive is good, proactive is better.
  • Do the right thing, not the safe thing: the best idea wins.

Where they hire

Seven of the eight open postings are in San Francisco, and one is in London. Every posting is hybrid. The office is in downtown San Francisco. The infrastructure posting also lists Remote in the United States. The careers page says that hybrid and remote work are fully supported. The postings say nothing about visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

The board is small. It lists three engineering roles, two sales roles, two marketing roles, and one open application for people who do not see their role.

  • Infrastructure: the team owns the cloud systems under the product and the tools engineers use to ship and observe code. It runs Kubernetes clusters and supports SaaS, single-tenant, and private deployments.
  • Applied research: an engineer on the document understanding team trains and fine-tunes vision-language models. The work covers data pipelines, synthetic data, and benchmarks, and it ships to production. The role works closely with the CTO.
  • Head of Engineering: a hands-on leader who owns technical direction, hiring, and delivery. The role covers application services, APIs, data pipelines, model training, and model serving.
  • Sales: enterprise account executives run the full sales cycle. One sells to AI-native software companies from San Francisco. One sells to enterprises in EMEA from London. Both work with technical buyers and run proofs of concept.
  • Marketing: two developer evangelists show LlamaParse at conferences, meetups, and hackathons. They post demos on social media and make videos, blog posts, and talks.

Benefits in the postings are salary and equity, medical, dental, and vision cover, unlimited paid time off, and daily lunch in the San Francisco office.

What they look for

Engineering roles ask for hands-on work with LLM systems in production. The infrastructure role asks for eight or more years of engineering, with Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud cost tuning. The applied research role asks for three to seven years in machine learning, strong Python, and PyTorch. The Head of Engineering must write production code and know model serving and model training. That role also asks for experience leading several teams, at the scope of 20 to 30 people, in B2B SaaS.

Account executives need four or more years of enterprise SaaS sales, and five for the EMEA role. They must show a record of winning new customers and selling technical products. The San Francisco sales role asks for active use of AI tools.

The evangelist roles are open-level. They ask for a strong presence on social media, comfort on stage and on camera, and working code in Python or TypeScript. They also ask for travel to events.

Several postings ask for people who work well with little structure and take ownership. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
