The company, in brief.
What they do
Hubble Network carries location and sensor data from any device that has a standard Bluetooth chip. A firmware update connects the device, with no modem and no added hardware. A ground network of more than 100 million access points covers cities, and six satellites reach remote areas. Customers track vehicles, equipment, and shipments.
What they value
- A sense of urgency: take projects from concept to reality fast.
- First principles engineering: know the why behind the what.
- High learning agility: love to learn, and work on your weak points.
- System-level design and analysis: iterate quickly when requirements change.
- Excellent communication with engineering, build staff, and operations.
- Anticipation of needs: find problems early and solve them at low cost.
Where they hire
All 19 open roles are in the United States. Ten are in Seattle, five are in San Francisco, one is in either city, and three are remote in the US. Lab and test roles are onsite, and several roles are hybrid. Every applicant must be a US citizen or a lawful permanent resident, because of US export rules (ITAR).
Teams and roles
Most open roles are senior, and about half work on satellite hardware and its software.
- RF payload hardware, the radio hardware that flies on the satellites: an engineering manager for RF hardware, an engineering manager for wireless and digital design, a senior antenna and RF hardware engineer, an RF test engineer, and a wireless systems engineer. The work covers phased-array antennas, RF circuit board layout in Altium, FPGA designs, and tests of flight hardware.
- RF payload software: principal and senior embedded engineers write C and Python on embedded Linux for the satellites. A principal localization engineer builds location estimates with Kalman and particle filters.
- R&D: a senior wireless systems engineer improves the accuracy of satellite location and researches a downlink beacon.
- Engineering: a data platform engineer, the founding data hire, builds the data platform from the warehouse layer up.
- Product: a principal product manager owns data and AI features, and solutions for uses such as cold chain and tool monitoring.
- Sales: a VP of enterprise sales, a senior account executive, and a senior sales engineer. All three report to the Chief Business Officer.
- Business operations: a chief financial officer, the first in-house general counsel, a commodity manager for circuit board suppliers, a lab manager, and an inventory control technician.
What they look for
Engineering roles ask for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. Several prefer a master's degree. Engineering managers need ten or more years, and principal roles need seven or eight. The wireless systems engineer role asks for two years. Hardware roles want hands-on lab work with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators. Python repeats across hardware, embedded, and data roles, often with C or C++. Many postings prefer experience with space hardware or other high-reliability hardware. The data platform engineer, general counsel, and commodity manager roles ask for work with AI tools. Sales roles ask for seven to twelve years and for complex deals with many stakeholders. Every posting states a salary range. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
