About GoCardless

The company, in brief.

What they do

GoCardless, a Mollie company, lets businesses collect, manage, and send bank payments through Direct Debit, real-time payments, and open banking. Over 100,000 businesses use it. It processes more than US$130 billion a year in over 30 countries. Its Success+ product recovers failed payments, and its Protect+ product defends customers from fraud.

What they value

  • Start with why: you can only do a job properly when you know why you do it.
  • Make it happen: work with urgency and take personal accountability.
  • Act with integrity: do what is right, even when no one is watching.
  • Be humble: act without ego, and do not let excuses get in the way.
  • Care deeply: care about the effect on the world and on the people near you.

Teams and roles

The board has 29 Postings. Many roles are open in two or three cities at once.

  • Product Development: 17 Postings, the largest group. They cover Engineering Managers, a Director of Engineering for the Riga office, a Site Reliability Engineer, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Science Managers, Senior Data Scientists, and Salesforce Developers.
  • Operations: 6 Postings. They cover fraud investigations, credit control, credit risk, controls, French-speaking customer operations, and a Threat and Analytics Lead.
  • Customer and Sales: 4 Postings. They cover a Customer Success Manager, a Technical Account Manager in Melbourne, and Solution Engineers.
  • Finance and People: a Procurement Manager and a Talent Acquisition Partner.

Much of the data and engineering work is in Payment Intelligence, the teams that build Success+ and Protect+. The Connectivity group in Riga builds and runs the connections to banks. Riga is an engineering hub with over 200 people.

What they look for

Postings ask for ownership more than any one skill. They want a self-starter who takes a problem from start to finish. Most Postings also ask for clear communication, and the ability to explain technical topics to people who are not technical. A few Postings say that you do not need to meet every requirement.

Data roles ask for SQL and Python. The Data Engineer Posting names Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt. The Senior Data Scientist Posting asks for a STEM degree or equal experience, and for hands-on work with deep learning, graph, or sequence models. The Engineering Manager Posting asks for coding experience with Python and Ruby on Rails, and with JavaScript and React. The Site Reliability Engineer Posting asks for one programming language, Terraform, AWS or GCP, containers, and fluent English.

Customer-facing technical roles ask for knowledge of APIs and experience with payment integrations. Operations roles ask for attention to detail and good written English. One customer operations role asks for fluent French. Experience in payments, fintech, or fraud is a plus in many Postings. Each Posting gives a base salary range.
