GitLab is all remote, but some roles have location rules. Most roles are in the US and Canada. Others are in the UK, Poland, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and the Middle East. India roles are tagged Bangalore, and India is a hub for support, audit, and engineering. Most India roles are in engineering.

Teams and roles

Engineering uses Ruby on Rails for the GitLab monolith, Go for services, and PostgreSQL. Kubernetes, Python, and cloud platforms are also common.

• Backend in India: intermediate to staff level, on database change management, planning, events and messaging, delivery and upgrades, and software supply chain security.
• Product engineering in Bangalore: GraphQL and REST APIs, PostgreSQL tuning at scale, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, feature flags, and on-call. Engineers get Claude Code and other agentic tools.
• AI: agents that write merge requests, generate tests, and fix security issues.
• Support: engineers read logs and the Rails code and submit merge requests to fix problems.

Product managers are remote in the US and Canada. The growth role asks for SQL and A/B testing. There are no product designer roles.

What they look for

GitLab expects every team member to use AI in daily work. It wants strong written communication in a remote, async setting and alignment with its values. Its operating principles are speed with quality, ownership, and customer outcomes. Many engineers talk with users on the public issue tracker.
