About Exowatt

The company, in brief.

What they do

Exowatt makes the P3, a modular energy system for data centers and utility companies. The P3 captures solar energy with Fresnel lenses, stores it as heat, and makes electricity on demand with a heat engine. It gives up to 24 hours of power on demand. Exowatt started in 2023 and makes its systems in the United States.

What they value

  • Exothermic energy: radiate positivity and momentum.
  • Resilient and gritty: push through setbacks with grit and optimism.
  • One team, one mission: debate hard, commit fully, and own wins and losses together.

Where they hire

All 17 postings are on site. Nine name the headquarters in Miami, Florida, and eight name the facility in Austin, Texas. Two roles accept either site. Most postings require relocation, and Exowatt gives relocation assistance. The recruiter role takes only candidates from the Miami area. The postings say nothing about visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Most open roles are in hardware engineering. There are no sales or software product roles on the board.

  • Optics: a lead optical engineer who designs the Fresnel concentrators, a mechanical engineer who builds the assemblies that hold optics on the solar trackers, and an integration and test engineer who runs the optical test stands. The optics team says it is AI-native, and AI agents run its simulation campaigns and long tests.
  • Thermal and materials: a lead thermal design engineer who owns the solar thermal receiver, and a lead materials engineer who researches storage materials for temperatures above 1000°C.
  • Electrical and power: electrical engineers in Miami and Austin, a lead power electronics engineer for a megawatt-class power conversion system, and a power systems engineer who models the grid and validates hardware against the models.
  • Controls and firmware: a lead engineer who writes PLC programs and embedded firmware and builds CI/CD pipelines for them.
  • Supply chain and manufacturing, all in Austin: a global supply manager, a technical program manager, a quality engineer, a reliability engineer, and a manufacturing engineer who takes optics from prototype to volume production.
  • People and talent: a lead technical recruiter in Miami. The role starts as a 1099 contract for 40 hours a week and can become full-time.

The board also has a general application for the talent network. The controls and materials postings state pay, from $155,000 to $215,000 a year. The other full-time postings offer a competitive salary and equity options.

What they look for

Almost every role asks for an engineering degree. The lead optical role asks for a master's degree or a PhD, and the lead materials role asks for a PhD. Experience ranges from one year for the mechanical engineer to ten years for the lead power electronics engineer. The power systems role is also open to recent graduates with a thesis or project in the field. Postings repeat the same themes: hands-on work with real hardware, a record of taking hardware from prototype to production, root-cause analysis, and clear technical writing. Electrical, power, and controls roles name UL, IEC, and IEEE standards. Most supply chain and manufacturing roles ask for work with suppliers and a willingness to travel. The two Miami optics roles ask for daily use of AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex, and candidates show how they work with AI in interviews. Those two roles also probe math and physics fundamentals hard in interviews. The recruiter role asks for experience with AI tools, Claude specifically.
