About Databricks

The company, in brief.

What they do

Databricks sells the Data + AI Platform, built on an open lakehouse. Companies use it to store and govern data and to build analytics, AI apps, and agents. More than 20,000 organizations use it. The creators of Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and MLflow started it in 2013 in San Francisco.

What they value

  • Customer obsessed.
  • Raise the bar.
  • Truth seeking.
  • First principles.
  • Bias for action.
  • Company first.

Where they hire

Databricks has more than 30 offices in over 20 countries, with hybrid work. Most roles are in the Bay Area, Seattle, US-remote, London, Amsterdam, Munich, Belgrade, Tokyo, and Singapore. Bengaluru is one of the largest locations, and many India roles are hybrid. A few India roles are remote. Solutions architects work in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune.

Teams and roles

Engineers build distributed systems across many cloud regions and millions of virtual machines. India engineering roles are mostly senior and staff backend engineers and engineering managers in Bengaluru.

  • Backend: Java, Scala, Go, Python, or C++. Teams include ingestion, search, networking, data platform, observability, and billing. One Bengaluru team works on the Rust developer experience.
  • Search and applied AI: ranking, query understanding, evals, and relevance with LLMs.
  • Internal AI agents: full-stack roles in Bengaluru with Python, React, and LangChain or LangGraph.
  • Forward deployed engineering: production data and AI systems at customer sites, with Spark internals, cloud platforms, and MLOps. Some roles are remote in India.

Product managers work mostly in San Francisco, Seattle, Amsterdam, and Berlin, and know Spark, SQL, and Python. A large part of the board is field engineering, professional services, and sales.

What they look for

Databricks wants ambitious builders with experience of systems at scale. Many field roles ask for hands-on Spark and cloud knowledge. The process is a talent acquisition call, skill assessments, a pre-onsite screen, and an onsite loop. Some roles add a presentation, then reference checks and an offer. It takes two to three months. Interviews are on Google Meet and ask for real examples of how you work.
