What they do
Crosby is a law firm that reviews and negotiates commercial contracts for companies. AI agents research, analyze, and draft, and human attorneys review all the work. Clients pay a fixed rate for each document. Crosby says that it has more than 50 licensed attorneys and carries malpractice insurance. It builds its own tools for this work.
What they value
- Honesty and ownership come first.
- Be stubborn and empathetic, and cherish collaboration.
- Push the limits with precision.
- Keep learning, through mentorship, research, and work across disciplines.
- Speed to execution is the north star.
- Own the outcome with the client: better work, delivered faster.
Where they hire
Sixteen of the 17 open roles are on-site in New York City. The Commercial Counsel role is remote in the US. Crosby says that the team works in person, and one posting asks for five days a week in the office. The careers page offers relocation support to move to New York. The postings say nothing about visa sponsorship.
Teams and roles
The board has four departments. Engineering has ten open roles, operations has five, and legal and sales have one each.
- Engineering: most roles carry the title Member of Technical Staff. They cover platform, product, infrastructure, security, data science, research engineering, AI developer experience, and a generalist role. The team works in Python and TypeScript, with React interfaces.
- AI work: retrieval pipelines and agent workflows for contract review, playbook retrieval, and docx editing. Research engineers also fine-tune models and build reinforcement learning infrastructure. Several roles build evaluation systems that measure model quality.
- Data and product: a Head of Data who builds and leads the data team, and a Product Manager who owns the redlining product. Redlining is marking changes on a contract.
- Operations: two operations leads who design the workflows that mix human and machine work, and a Strategic Project Lead who owns client relationships. There is also a first Controller and an Executive Assistant to the Founders.
- Legal: a Commercial Counsel who reviews and negotiates client contracts and directs the AI tools over each contract.
- Sales: a Founding Account Executive who builds the sales process with the founders.
Engineers work closely with the in-house legal team in most roles.
What they look for
Most engineering roles ask for three to five or more years of experience, and most name Python. The data science role takes one to five years. The AI roles want hands-on work with LLMs, and with retrieval, agent workflows, or evaluation systems. The Head of Data needs eight or more years and experience leading teams. The Product Manager needs five or more years and a record of AI products.
The two operations lead roles ask for two to five years in operations, consulting, or finance, and give priority to former founders. An interest in law is a plus there, not a requirement. The Commercial Counsel needs four or more years reviewing commercial contracts, in private practice or in-house. The Controller must hold a CPA and have six or more years in accounting. The Founding Account Executive needs three to eight or more years in sales.
Across roles, the postings repeat ownership of work from idea to delivery, a pragmatic approach, clear communication, and comfort with ambiguity. Every posting states a salary range. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
