About Confluent

The company, in brief.

What they do

Confluent sells a data streaming platform from the original creators of Apache Kafka. Companies use it to stream and process data in real time. Products include Confluent Cloud, Confluent Platform, WarpStream, Apache Flink, and Tableflow. IBM acquired Confluent, and the careers site now links to Life at IBM.

What they value

  • Ask hard questions.
  • Give honest feedback.
  • Show up for each other.
  • No egos and no solo acts.
  • Raise the bar and bring others with you.
  • Belonging is the baseline.

Where they hire

Almost every role is remote, mostly in the United States. Others are remote in Ontario or British Columbia, Canada. Some postings name US cities but are still remote. India roles are rare. When they appear, they are remote in India.

Teams and roles

The board has only engineering and product roles. Engineering roles are senior, staff, and principal level. Teams build multi-tenant services on AWS, GCP, and Azure in Java, Go, Scala, C/C++, or Python.

  • Kora: the cloud-native engine behind Confluent Cloud, with compute and storage layers.
  • Tableflow: turns Kafka streams into Apache Iceberg tables.
  • WarpStream: a Kafka-compatible platform built on object storage.
  • Stream Governance: Schema Registry and data contracts.
  • Streaming AI: model inference and AI agents on real-time data.
  • Also infrastructure, site reliability and incident management, security, and AI productivity for engineers.

Product managers are senior and staff level. They work on cloud networking, replication and disaster recovery, connectors, developer APIs, and real-time analytics. The board has no sales or design roles.

What they look for

Engineering postings value Kubernetes, on-call experience, and knowledge of Kafka, Flink, and Iceberg. Senior roles want clear design documents, mentoring, and technical leadership across teams. Product managers need years of experience on infrastructure, data, or cloud products, and depth in distributed systems or networking. Some product postings say an MBA is a plus. The site does not describe the interview steps. Confluent shares applicant data with other IBM companies that help with hiring.
