About Chai Discovery

The company, in brief.

What they do

Chai Discovery trains AI models that learn how biochemical structures form and interact. Scientists use its software to design new medicines, such as antibodies, on a computer. Its latest model is Chai-3. Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Novartis use its models. In July 2026, Chai raised $400 million from Index Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, Dimension, and others.

What they value

  • High velocity: operate with urgency and iterate fast.
  • Ownership of outcomes.
  • Diverse perspectives, and talent from unexpected places.
  • Low ego and high emotional intelligence.
  • Craft and care for small details.
  • A willingness to bet on rising talent.

Where they hire

All 19 open postings are at the San Francisco office. Chai says that it works in person in San Francisco, California. The postings that state a workplace type all say on-site, and no posting offers remote work.

Teams and roles

The board groups its postings into seven departments.

  • Research: research scientists who work on large diffusion models, from pre-training and architecture design to post-training. Three research engineer roles cover the training and evaluation frameworks, the training stack on large GPU clusters, and agent-powered systems that automate the research loop. A data operations role scales the lab-in-the-loop data platform.
  • Science: antibody engineers and protein design scientists. They use the models, test the designs in the lab, and run experimental programs that train and evaluate the next models.
  • Platform and Products: a product software engineer, the first design engineer, and a platform and inference engineer who owns model serving across a multi-cloud GPU fleet.
  • Partnerships: business development, engagement management, and a forward-deployed scientist who advises the drug programs of pharma partners.
  • Strategy: the first finance hire, the first marketing hire, and a new strategy team.
  • People and Ops: a founding talent team that hires for research and engineering first.
  • Outliers and Polymaths: an open application for exceptional people.

Chai does not offer internships. The internship posting only collects details from people who want to stay in touch.

What they look for

The three research engineer roles ask for deep industry experience with top AI/ML teams, strong system design skills, Python, and PyTorch or JAX. Research scientists need engineering skill and fluency in the research literature. The antibody engineering role asks for a PhD or equivalent experience, and hands-on design and characterization of antibody-based biologics.

The product engineer needs two or more years of production products with React or Vue, TypeScript, and a Node, Go, or Python backend. The platform engineer needs four or more years of production systems and experience with model inference. The design engineer needs five or more years of product design, a portfolio, and the ability to write production front-end code.

A biology background is not required for the software, design, data operations, marketing, and strategy roles. Those postings ask for curiosity and the ability to learn the domain fast. Several postings say that Chai will bet on rising talent. The partnerships roles value biopharma or drug discovery experience.

The postings state no pay ranges and do not describe the interview steps.
