See them all, freeThe company, in brief.
What they do
CAE builds flight simulators and trains pilots and aircraft technicians. Its postings call it the worldwide leader in aviation training. The work splits in two: civil aviation training for airlines and business jet operators, and defence and security training for military organisations and government agencies. The company is based in Saint-Laurent in Montreal and runs training centres around the world.
What they value
- Readiness, which defence postings phrase as mission readiness and operational readiness.
- Hands-on aircraft experience, because instructors are hired from the trade.
- Working in regulated environments, which defence marketing postings name.
- Teaching, not only knowing. Instructor postings ask you to build the courseware too.
- Travel. Several instructor postings state a percentage of time away.
Where they hire
Of 333 postings, the United States holds 141 and Canada 86. Australia holds 22, the United Kingdom 12, and Germany eight. Other postings sit in Riyadh, Seoul, Arlington, Whippany, and Lake Nona in Florida. Training centre roles are tied to the centre they serve. Postings for Quebec appear in French as well as English on the company's French-language job board.
Teams and roles
Training is the product, so training roles outnumber engineering ones.
- Training development and delivery: 89 postings, the largest group. These are the instructors and courseware developers.
- Training centre operation: 66 postings, which run the centres themselves, including simulator technicians.
- Engineering and product development: 56 postings, which build the simulators.
- Planning and project management: 23 postings.
- Finance: 18 postings.
- Bids, marketing, and business development: 16 postings, including defence marketing strategy.
- Information technology and telecommunications: 15 postings.
- Quality and continuous improvement: nine postings. Customer service holds eight.
- General management: seven postings. Legal holds five and students five.
- Manufacturing and procurement: four postings each.
What they look for
Instructor postings hire from the aircraft, not the classroom. The Bombardier maintenance instructor posting asks for a mechanic or maintenance instructor with experience on Bombardier aircraft, and asks you to develop and deliver multimedia and computer-assisted courseware using that experience. It states 30 to 40 per cent global travel and offers a five thousand dollar sign-on bonus. Pilot instructor postings name the aircraft type in the title, so the type rating is the requirement. Senior commercial postings describe a wide remit: the defence and security marketing director posting covers positioning, product marketing, account-based marketing, demand generation, events, and thought leadership, names the customers as military organisations, government agencies, original equipment manufacturers and prime contractors, and says the work happens in highly regulated business-to-business and business-to-government environments.
