About Baya Systems

The company, in brief.

What they do

Baya Systems designs and licenses intellectual property (IP) for semiconductor chips. Its fabric IP moves data between compute, memory, and I/O in a System-on-Chip (SoC) and across chiplets, which are modular chips combined into one system. Its software lets chip teams model and optimize a fabric before they build it. Customers build data center, AI, automotive, and edge chips.

What they value

  • Passion: bring energy, commitment, and purpose to the work.
  • Authenticity: communicate openly, act with integrity, and build trust.
  • Customer focus: keep customer needs at the center of decisions.
  • Innovation: challenge established approaches to make practical solutions.
  • Accountability: own decisions, commitments, and results.
  • Excellence: hold the work and the technology to a high standard.

Where they hire

Baya has offices in Santa Clara, Austin, Cambridge in the UK, and Bengaluru. Of 23 open roles, nine name Santa Clara. Six each name Bengaluru, Austin, and Cambridge. Three name remote work in Europe, and one is in Tokyo. The hardware manager role is onsite only. The marketing role can be fully remote.

Teams and roles

The board has three departments. Hardware and Commercial have almost all the open roles, and most roles are senior.

  • Hardware: design verification engineers who write test plans and UVM/SystemVerilog testbenches for configurable interconnect IP. Microarchitects and RTL design engineers who design that IP for performance, power, and area. There is also an SoC-IP architect who writes network-on-chip and cache-coherency specifications, and a manager who leads a team of 8 to 12 RTL and verification engineers.
  • Commercial: senior field applications engineers and solutions architects. They are the technical contact for customers, help design custom solutions, and give presentations and training. Two roles lead the field applications teams, one for the USA and one for Europe and Asia-Pacific. There is also a marketing communications manager.
  • Software: a performance architecture role that builds fabric and cache models in Python and C++, and a software verification engineer in Bengaluru who tests the software platforms.

A head of customer programs in Santa Clara reports to the CEO and runs IP programs for key accounts. Each posting says that salary matches experience and comes with performance incentives and equity.

What they look for

Hardware roles ask for eight or more years of current hands-on work and a BS or MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science. They ask for Verilog and SystemVerilog, and verification roles ask for deep UVM experience. Many roles ask for knowledge of Arm AMBA protocols such as AXI and CHI. They also ask for experience with caches, cache coherency, interconnects, and network-on-chip designs. Python is required or a plus in most engineering roles, and the software roles need Python and C++.

Solutions architects need ten or more years of work on complex SoCs, from architecture to tape-out. Senior field applications engineers need five or more years in a customer-facing technical role and a master's degree. The two field applications managers need ten or more years in the industry and five or more years of managing customer-facing engineering teams. Customer-facing roles travel to customer sites and events. Almost every role asks for strong communication skills. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
