About Baseten

The company, in brief.

What they do

Baseten builds the Inference Cloud, a platform that runs AI models in live products (inference). Its products include Dedicated Inference, Model APIs, and model training. Companies such as Cursor, Notion, Abridge, and OpenEvidence use it for AI work that their business depends on. Baseten says that it recently raised $1.5B from investors (its Series F).

  • Be customer obsessed.
  • Work hard and move fast.
  • Care deeply about quality.

Teams and roles

Engineering, product, and design (EPD) has 43 Postings. Go-to-market (sales and marketing) has 32, and general and administrative (G&A) has 24.

  • Inference: software engineers for Dedicated Inference, model performance, the Baseten Inference Stack, voice AI, GPU kernels (low-level code for GPUs, the chips that run AI models), and GPU networking.
  • Platform: infrastructure, cloud platform, site reliability (keeping systems up), security, observability (seeing how systems run), enterprise platform, and developer tooling.
  • Training and research: training infrastructure and product, and research scientists and engineers who improve models after their first training (post-training).
  • Forward deployed engineers build AI applications directly with customers. Engineering managers, technical program managers, product managers, and designers also hire.
  • Sales and marketing: account executives, sales development, sales managers, and six product marketing managers.
  • G&A: finance, people, workplace, and a compute team that finds GPU capacity and data centers from large cloud providers and other suppliers.

What they look for

Engineering Postings ask for a Computer Science degree or a related field. They ask for strong coding in Python, Go, or JavaScript, and an interest in machine learning (ML) and AI infrastructure. Forward deployed engineers need 2+ years and strong Python. GPU kernel engineers need C++, CUDA (NVIDIA's language for GPU code), and knowledge of GPU memory and threads. Enterprise account executives need 8+ years of selling to large businesses and seven- and eight-figure deals. They must also be able to talk about model serving (running models for users) and GPU infrastructure. Sales development asks for 1+ year finding new sales leads for online software (SaaS). Product marketing asks for 3 to 8+ years and a working understanding of large language models (LLMs), the AI models behind chat tools.
