About Artie

The company, in brief.

What they do

Artie runs a managed platform that streams every change from production databases into data warehouses and lakes, such as Snowflake, BigQuery, and Iceberg. It uses change data capture (CDC), which reads each change from the database log. Artie promises sub-minute latency and exactly-once delivery. Customers include Substack, Alloy, and ClickUp.

What they value

  • Play the long game: build products that customers love for years.
  • Sustainability over shortcuts.
  • Freedom over micromanagement.
  • Results over fluff.
  • No ego and a bias for action.
  • Get 1% better every day.

Where they hire

All six open roles are full time and on site in San Francisco. The office is in the Financial District, and the team works there five days a week. Some postings say that Artie covers relocation. Every posting says that visa sponsorship is available.

Teams and roles

Artie calls itself a lean team that is still based in San Francisco. It went through Y Combinator and raised a 12 million US dollar Series A led by Standard Capital. The board lists six roles in two teams.

  • Engineering: a product engineer and a senior software engineer. The product engineer talks to customers and builds features such as column exclusion, encryption, and schema change alerts. The senior engineer focuses on distributed systems and builds new CDC connectors.
  • Sales: an enterprise account executive, the first solutions engineer, the first business development representative, and a founding customer success manager. The account executive sources most of the pipeline and sells in 6 to 12 month cycles, with no SDR team.

The stack is TypeScript with React on the frontend, Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and Elasticsearch on the backend, and Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm on GCP and AWS. Every posting gives pay. Two postings say that every employee owns equity.

What they look for

Both engineering roles ask for strong computer science fundamentals and comfort across the whole stack. Go is preferred but not required. The product engineer role asks for four or more years of web development at startups. The senior role prefers experience with async systems, gRPC, Kafka, and Kubernetes.

Sales roles ask for experience selling to technical buyers. The account executive and solutions engineer roles each ask for five or more years. The solutions engineer must know at least one relational database and one cloud data warehouse. The customer success role asks for four or more years at a B2B SaaS company and comfort with SQL. The business development role asks for one to two years, and it also considers strong new graduates. Many postings count knowledge of CDC and Kafka as a plus. The postings do not describe the interview steps.
