About Apollo GraphQL

The company, in brief.

What they do

Apollo GraphQL builds GraphOS, a platform that joins the APIs of a company into one graph. GraphQL is a query language for APIs. GraphOS also gives AI agents controlled access to company systems through MCP, a protocol that connects agents to tools. It runs more than 2 trillion operations each month. Customers include Walmart, Expedia, and The New York Times.

What they value

  • Empowering others: people set each other up to do their best work.
  • Stewardship: time and talent go to their highest and best use.
  • Caring, with empathy and listening.
  • A growth mindset: people name problems, learn from them, and ask for feedback.
  • Meaningful ownership, smart teammates, and hard problems that matter.

Where they hire

All nine open roles are full time and remote. Apollo has no return-to-office rule. Four roles are open in the United States or Canada, four in the United States, and one in the United Kingdom. One design role prefers the San Francisco Bay Area. Postings say that Apollo uses E-Verify. They do not mention visa sponsorship.

Teams and roles

Apollo says that it has more than 220 people in 10 countries and 13 time zones. Partners from Andreessen Horowitz and Matrix Partners sit on its board. The open roles are in engineering, sales, design, and finance.

  • Staff Software Engineer, Rust: owns the Router, the runtime engine of GraphOS, and takes part in on-call.
  • Staff Software Engineer, Trust and Telemetry: builds OAuth, single sign-on (SSO), audit logs, fine-grained permissions, and telemetry pipelines.
  • Senior Solution Engineer: leads technical evaluations and proofs of concept for large customers before they buy.
  • Sales and partner roles: a senior enterprise account executive in the UK, a manager who trains the sales team, and a manager who builds the North American partner program from the start.
  • Senior Staff and Senior Product Designers: design the developer tools, the design system, and agent products.
  • Revenue Manager: owns billing, collections, and revenue recognition.

Every posting gives a pay range, and five of them offer equity.

What they look for

The two staff engineering roles ask for distributed systems skills and on-call work in production. The Rust role asks for Rust and systems engineering. The trust and telemetry role asks for hands-on work on auth systems such as OAuth 2.0, SSO, and fine-grained permissions. It also asks for a backend language such as TypeScript, Go, Rust, or Java.

The senior designer role asks for five or more years of design, and the senior staff role for twelve or more. Both ask for a portfolio of shipped work and products for technical users. The solution engineer role asks for four or more years in pre-sales for B2B software. The sales roles ask for enterprise selling to technical buyers. The revenue role asks for five to eight years of accounting at a SaaS company, ASC 606, and NetSuite. Five roles ask for hands-on use of AI tools. GraphQL experience is a plus in the Rust, solution engineer, and sales training roles.
