About Anthropic

The company, in brief.

What they do

Anthropic is an AI safety and research company. It builds Claude, an AI model, and products such as the Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude for Work. It serves Claude to millions of users. Anthropic is a public benefit corporation based in San Francisco.

What they value

  • Act for the global good.
  • Hold light and shade.
  • Be good to users.
  • Ignite a race to the top on safety.
  • Do the simple thing that works.
  • Put the mission first.

Where they hire

Most roles are in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle. Roles outside the US are mostly sales and applied AI. All staff work in an office at least 25 percent of the time. A few roles are remote, and many of them need travel. India has a few customer-facing applied AI roles in Bangalore. Anthropic sponsors visas for eligible roles.

Teams and roles

Engineering hiring is mostly at staff level and above. Postings most often ask for Python, Rust, or Go, and for AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.

  • Research: pretraining, reinforcement learning, post-training, interpretability, alignment, and model evaluations, with PyTorch on GPUs or JAX on TPUs.
  • Infrastructure: inference, cluster and Kubernetes platforms, capacity, caching, databases, and developer productivity.
  • Product engineering: Claude Code, the API, enterprise products, mobile and desktop apps, and cybersecurity products.
  • Applied AI: architects and forward deployed engineers who help customers adopt Claude.
  • Safeguards: enforcement analysts, threat intelligence investigators, and policy specialists.

Sales is the largest group. Product managers cover research, growth, cybersecurity, and the public sector, and design roles are scarce.

What they look for

Anthropic wants people who care about the social impact of their work and help outside their job description. It cares about what candidates can do, not where they learned it. Candidates put independent research, blog posts, or open source work at the top of the resume. About half of the technical staff had no prior ML experience. Interviews are on Google Meet, and technical interviews use live coding tools such as Colab and CodeSignal. Candidates do take-homes and live interviews without AI, unless told otherwise. Anthropic does not give interview feedback.
