About Absa Group

The company, in brief.

What they do

Absa Group is a bank. Its postings open with the line "Empowering Africa's tomorrow, together" and say the group has over 100 years of history. They describe it as a local bank with regional and international expertise, and as a proudly African group. The board covers retail branches, business banking, product teams, and the technology that runs them.

What they value

  • Africa first, which the opening line of every posting states.
  • Governance and control, which appear as an accountability in most postings.
  • Employment equity. South African postings state that preference goes to candidates from designated groups under the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998.
  • Career development, which postings point to through an internal portal.
  • Named qualifications, because most postings state the degree required.

Where they hire

Of 54 postings, South Africa holds 38. Kenya holds four, Mauritius two, and Ghana and Tanzania one each. Johannesburg holds nine, Cape Town five, and Sandton two. The rest sit one to a branch in towns such as Paarl, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Richards Bay, Barrydale, and Plettenberg Bay. Twenty-one postings are hybrid, and none is fully remote.

Teams and roles

The board mixes branch jobs with head office jobs. Forty-six postings are permanent and seven are fixed term.

  • Customer relationship and sales management: 22 postings, the largest group. These are branch and adviser roles, including financial advisers who must hold FAIS accreditation.
  • Banking management: 14 postings, which run branches and business units.
  • Information and technology management: five postings, such as a specialist solution analyst working inside a DevOps squad.
  • Human capital management: three postings, including reward and remuneration administration across the pan-African business.
  • Product solutions management: two postings, such as a senior product manager for core transactional value-added services.
  • Risk, administration, data, customer service, and mathematical analytics: one or two postings each.
  • Entry level: some postings are marked entry level, such as a customer experience specialist in Nairobi and lead generator contracts.

What they look for

Postings state the accountabilities as a list, often with a percentage of time against each. The recoveries agent posting is the clearest example: it names daily productivity targets for calls, promises to pay, and kept promises, and asks you to follow set collection scripts and verify customer identity. The solution analyst posting asks you to turn business needs into user stories for a DevOps team and to own manual application testing. The product manager posting requires a bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in physical, mathematical, computer, or life sciences. The reward administration posting asks for accurate data, reconciliations, and support for audits across a pan-African environment. Branch adviser postings name the regulatory accreditation in the job title itself.
